US doctrine and training pay off in a tough campaign
The book was in good shape. While the author covers the events of the campaign thoroughly, he also makes a good effort to tie the performance of both sides to their ability to execute their respective doctrines for training, tactics and replenishment showing that the Germans were either unwilling or unable to stick to their doctrine and suffered accordingly, whereas the US army training and deployment worked well in all cases where it was thoroughly followed.
I liked that analysis.

Doge Dandolo's story is unique in Venetian and Byzantine history. What a man!
Fascinating story of a unique historical figure who seized the moment and created a whole new direction for Venice and the Byzantine empire. Great detail on how the Venetian "business deal of the century" became a history changing event. Great history writing.
