Father and Daughter Work Together with Hollywood Legends
The movie is wonderful, but a bit bizarre. It is not your typical musical. However, the weaknesses of the movie are overcome by a good storyline and an excellent cast. The movie is disjointed, and does not flow smoothly. The songs seem staged instead of spontaneous.
The movie is wonderful because it is the only time that legendary director Vincent Minnelli worked with his famous daughter, Liza. It is worth watching for this alone. Also, the movie has Ingrid Bergman as aging contessa. Charles Boyer is also in the movie in his last role.
Go ahead and watch this almost forgotten film. You will be glad you did!

Great Patriotic Album from Two Great 20th Century Singers
After the assassination of President Kennedy, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby teamed up for a patriotic salute to America. With choral backing, Bing and Frank sing standard patriotic songs plus some good ones you probably have not heard before.
I wish there had been more duo songs, but Frank and Bing do sing two songs together. All and all, this is a wonderful album to listen to not only at the 4th of July but all through the year.

Great Collection of George Burns Specials
I got this DVD 20 years ago and lost it. I was so happy to see this available again.
George Burns and Bob Hope had much in common. They were both comedians who worked in vaudeville before becoming radio and movie stars. In addition, both men lived to be 100 years old.
However, there was one big difference. Bob Hope was a big star all his life. George Burns was a big movie star when young and was out of the movies for 50 years until he came back in his late 70's.
George Burns became as or more popular in his old age than he was when he was young.
The specials on these discs were made when he was in his 80's and early 90's.
My favorite special is called "George Burns 100th Birthday ".
It was actually made when he was 88 because they weren't sure he would actually make it to 100.
The show has vintage stars like Jimmy Stewart and others. I suppose the show was intended to be viewed again on his actual birthday.
However, since he did actually live to be 100, but was unable to do his booked show at the London Paladium due to bad health, the 100th Birthday show was never aired again.
Sitbback and reminese as you watch these wonderful shows from 40 years ago.
