Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III 21.1 MP Digital SLR Camera - New Shutter from Canon!
    Apr 28, 2017
    Still an outstanding camera.
I was hesitant to buy "older" technology, specifically concerned with the max ISO at 3200. I can happily say I used it in low light with a f2.8 70-200mm lens, at my son's college graduation. Shot 100' away, and cropped the image in post editing. I was amazed to see a very clean , razor sharp image, noise level was very little. I've used it for a few portrait and engagement sessions and the image quality is exceptional. I upgraded from a 5D Mk II, a great camera in its own right. But I always wanted to have a 1D and it is living up to its reputation.

All I wanted and then some
I was a little concerned that the 16" screen might be too big but it's not. It's great for editing photos, which is my primary use. Very fast processor, especially for RAW files. I worked for almost two hours editing and it barely used any battery, and I could actually keep the laptop on my lap and it didn't get warm/hot like my old laptop. Another bonus, I watch a lot of baseball using MLBtv. This laptop is great for watching TV or movies, and this laptop's speakers are surprisingly good!

Razor sharp wide open, a seriously awesome lens
I was in the market for a used version II, having read older reviews at the time it came out. And at half the price of a version III, I was almost sold. But I kept seeing references to the lens being soft in the corners, especially shooting wide open at 2.8, which concerned me as I planned to use it in low light. I spoke with three photographers (two pros) who have had owned both and not only did they confirm the issues with the version II, they raved about the upgraded optics of the version III lens. One said it's worth every penny, rated it a 10 out of 10. I ultimately decided to buy the version III, knowing I would regret it if I didn't. After using now for two weeks, I can say it was the best decision. The image quality is simply spectacular, perfectly balanced contrast and color, razor sharp across the image even in low light at 2.8. The auto focus is quite impressive as well. If you don't plan to use 2.8, the 4.0 version may be your best option, equally good optics and more affordable. But if you plan to shoot in low light, and you need 2.8, don't hesitate on this decision. Once you see the image quality, you'll forget the price.
