The greatest performance, played with strength as well as grace. The sound is warm and transparent on this SACD.
The last performance of Rubinstein’s Brahms piano concerto is less tense than his previous ones, as with Fritz Reiner/Chicago Symphony. However it is more elegant, graceful, with piano singing beautifully over the oppressive storming orchestra sound. The Adagio is played with much slower pace, but with more elegance and sincerity. It is really affectionate and moving. The whole performance is full of strength and energy to its ending.

The most brilliant performance.
Brilliant, splendid, charming. The greatest performance.
The sound quality of this SACD is much better than its CD versions (vol. 35 of the Rubinstein Collection or the Living Stereo reissued version with the same cover picture). The piano sound is more full, warm, brilliant, and splendid. After listening the beautiful, charming, and dreaming variation XVIII (and proceeding to its end), one would feel that this is the master piece that demonstrated the love over the temptation, instead of the temptation over the love.
