A fantastic bargain
1 of 1 found this helpful This camera is already 5+ generations old. That said, it's a great camera. In fact, its age makes it an incredible bargain. This is my second E-PL3. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars is the kit lens. It's extremely compact and of decent quality but I generally use the much higher quality Olympus Pro lenses and you can tell the difference.

Quirky but worth a look
1 of 1 found this helpful Pros
-weatherproof
-small, lightweight
-very high quality
Cons
-noisy
-not as user-friendly as other Olympus models (though more user friendly than other brands)
I am a professional photography trainer; I teach people how to understand and use their cameras better. I love Olympus for its very user-friendly interface. Having said that, this particular model is a bit less easy to use than others I have worked with. It also produces an easily audible buzz when turned on. It's not just this unit; this is a well-documented issue.
Picture quality is there. This camera takes great pictures. (As do all cameras at this level.) It's especially nice that both the camera and lens are weatherproof so you can take them out in rain, snow, dust, blowing sand... whatever.
Camera has both a built-in viewfinder (digital) and the ability to shoot from the articulating LCD screen on back of the camera. The LCD is also a touch screen so you can easily adjust settings or even trigger the shutter button just by touching the screen. (Shutter release is a feature that can be switched on/off as desired.)
Does not have a permanently in-built flash but comes with a detachable flash unit. Not super fancy and is about on par with in-built flashes on comparable cameras.
The lens can accept a hood (for blocking sun glare) but does not come with one standard. It has both traditional and power zoom capabilities. That is, you can turn the ring to zoom or use the lens' built-in motor. Also includes a special macro focusing range that can be accessed with a pull and twist of the zoom ring.

Good value
We figured out that, unlike most lithium batteries, it is possible to put these in backwards. Fortunately, nothing is harmed by this. They simply won't work or won't charge.
