best little player that 'used to be'
The first thing that drew me to the Rio brand of players was a user adjustable 5-band eq and not just a set of pre-sets or none at all.
Next was the joystick & controls which were very useable even with light gloves on, which was important to me because I use them on my motorcycle trips.
I love the fact that they take SD cards so you can expand the memory up to one or two gigs and with the low cost memory cards now available you can easily have several cards loaded up and ready to go so you only have to swap cards when you want a change of music.
They had very good menu options also for things like backlighting and joystick function.
They were a little bulkier than some players, which could be a problem for some.
And lastly there is the issue of power, which in all the Rio’s I’ve owned (chiba, 2-calli’s, 2-forges) has been one AA cell.
This means you can have a ready supply of batteries on hand, buy them as you go, or go rechargeable if you want, offering a degree of flexibility.
The down side is I never seemed to get the advertised amount of play time on my batteries and I’m sure an Li pack would last longer but then I’d be looking for a place to plug it in when the power ran out and that’s not real handy on the road.
All in all great players if you don’t need to put every song you own on it. I still have them all and they all still work although the first forge does have some ‘issues’. Not too bad considering I got them all used for cheap!
Its the eBay way!
