Life Changing gear for Content Creators
2 of 3 found this helpful The Ronin S opened up so many new levels of creativity and its ease of use and long battery life keeps the creativity flowing. It’s customizability of the motors behaviors is absolutely amazing. I figured out that you can have different behaviors depending on which mode you press via the M button. In one mode i could lock of the roll axis to maintain horizon and in another mode i could lock the pan axis and keep the roll and/or tilt axis. Using a double tap of the trigger resets the positions of the motors to bring you back to a perfectly leveled camera position, doing so intelligently by understanding what orientation the camera is in, in relation to the handle. Also if you have a camera that has significant enough rolling shutter....(Sorry 5D Mark IV i love you but in 4k the rolling shutter is pretty vicious and doesn’t respond well to strong jolts like you get from handheld shots or a sudden impact to a non-motorized gimbal i.e.(someone accidentally bumping you at an event). Trying to correct it in post is hit and miss. So the Ronin S definitely improved flaws inherent to my camera of choice as well. I haven’t tried any other motorized gimbal so i can’t give an opinion on comparisons but man does this thing feel good in the hand. This is my first DJI product and if this is anything to go off of, i see myself getting alot more DJI products in the future. I wouldn’t worry about the weight much due to all the options available to combat fatigue (monopod attached to the bottom via 1/4-20 or 3/8. Or attach the supplied tripod feet from DJI which can both double as a place to grip with your second hand. The first event i did was a wedding where the Ronin was operational from approx about 12pm to 1am with periods of time being turned off and i still had 2 bars remaining. 2 days later i used it on a short film and again the day ended with 2 bars remaining. I can’t speak for everyone but if it has to be a little heavier for the increased battery life, then i’ll gladly accept it. I haven’t even begun to explore the creative presets like (panoramic, time lapse, and the blocking feature (film lingo for being able to plot all your gimbal positions on a graph for a given scene so that it is repeatable each and every time). The app is easy to use and very intuitive. I’ve only just begun and I’m already extremely excited about the future of my content. If you can afford it, definitely purchase one. It is an incredible device!
