A bit heavy but up to the task
1 of 1 found this helpful Involved in a large project cutting down overhead piping in an old commercial building. My approach included a large reciprocating saw and a cut-off disc on my grinder. Grinder cut-off blades ok for a couple of small cuts but loud, dusty and limited blade life and was intended for the tightest areas. The reciprocating saw was more than adequate for the copper lines but there was tons of cast iron and steel pipe to drop. That is where the portable bandsaw shines. After some extensive research I settled on the Milwaukee as prior experience with a wide range of corded and battery tools has made me a fan of their tools. This bandsaw is well-designed, excellent quality of manufacture and plenty of power for the task at hand. Additionally common blades available as needed at big box home centers. With limited prior experience with this tool type it took a few cuts to get a feel and capability. Essentially, in most cases, the operator balances the tool and lets the weight of the tool make the cut. Typically no need for additional pressure but depends on your angle of attack. Variable speed allows the operator to find the best setting for material. So far the blades have exceeded my expectations for the number of cuts you can get out of a blade before dulling. Blade swaps very fast with a simple and solid cam lever. The blade tracks true and no adjusting needed (nor incorporated in the design). One of the best attributes of these tools is that the cut runs cool with no spark flashing, minimal dust and the cut-offs can be handled easily as little heat is generated and quiet as well. This is a major safety advantage--especially in deconstruction. Operator needs to be aware to prevent blade binding. This risk can be minimized by carefully assessing the cut for drop and weight shifts. Downside is weight if you need to cut from an angle and bear more weight of the tool. Additionally the tool is large and prevents access in tight quarters and, obviously, no flush cuts. Certainly not unique to the Milwaukee design as common in all brands. Good heavy duty case and decent cord length. if the option of a stationary bench tool is desired the SWAG company makes a line of stationary tables designed specifically to fit the Milwaukee line Unreserved recommendation for this tool but it is fairly specific to a task so given the price make sure it won't gather dust on the shelf.

Nice addition to kit...

Great value
Received on time with excellent packaging. Recently salvaged an abandoned pressure washer with a Honda GX200 engine. Unit was a great replacement and reinstalled with slight modification as frame prevented typically water inlet connection. Powered up, reached and maintained pressure. Well built and expect long use.
