Extra capacity with ease
Mounting:
Mounting was quite straight forward.
Had to move some stuff on the bars,i.e throttle cable, to get it to fit. Took a couple of minutes to route the hose down to the stock tank.
I tried to mount it without the raisers but my bike being an enduro with speedo etc and also quite large hand protectors that did not work out. Also the hydraulic clutch got in the way. On an MX bike with wire clutch it could perhaps be mounted even lower for lower cog.
Function:
It is really important to get the most amount of fuel out of it down to the stock tank. I ended up with putting a small metal stick into the siphon hose down to the aux tank to get it to straighten out and start as low down as possible. That worked very well. The bend that was in hose from the start was no good and didn't get enough fuel out. No problem with restricting the fuel flow.
Riding:
At first it felt really awkward with the extra weight that high up. I didn't expectit to feel it that much but it really did. As I started racing though I pretty soon got used to it. You do feel that the steering is compromised but it pretty soon goes away as the fuel is being siphoned down. After some 20min into the first race I didn't notice it anymore.
Slammed my helmet into it a couple of times but nothing serious, I guess a shorter rider might experience this a bit more (I'm 180cm).
Capacity:
I got some 2.2l into mine and with the metal stick in the hose I got almost everything out. I'd say no more than 1 dl is left in it. That gives my FE501 some 20km extra range during a cross county race, probably a little bit more.
