Revell Germany 3986 WWII SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE MK.IIA Fighter model kit 1/32

A great kit with some challenges.

Am in the process (75% complete) of assembling this model which I had built in the1970's. This is a very good quality model. The parts are well molded and fit very tightly. Some of the cockpit sidewall detail is excessive since it is ridiculously small and would not show when the cockpit access door is glued closed when a "flying" model is desired! The only real problem encountered is that the shape/profile of the elevators do not match the shape/profile of the Horizontal stabilizers! The horizontal Stabilizer belongs to earlier models but the elevator has the Mark-8 and later profile where with the bigger engine and higher ceilings more aerodynamic balancing was evidently required ! The balance horns on the tip of the Elevators has to be cut back/trimmed to match the profile of the earlier Mark stabilizer. I tested a hot blade on a piece of scrap polystyrene with poor results. I had planned to use a fine X -acto zero set saw blade to do the job. I began by scribing the cut line with a fine tip X-Acto blade and kept gently scribing until I cut through to the bottom. Pleasant surprise was that the elevator material is solid at this point so, end finish was not an issue! So, with the noted exception, a great model of a classic aircraft. As a retired Air Force pilot, I was born twenty years too late to fly a Spit in the battle of Britain!

A new cooking experience

Have wanted an enamel dutch oven for ever. Made a great birthday present from my daughter. So far it has cooked Elk stew on stove top and whole chicken in oven. Both were an culinary delights. What more can be said....it cleans up easy, no sticking.
