Great image, limited format compatibility
2 of 2 found this helpful If you want a player that can handle 4k UHD and Region A/1 Blu Rays/DVDs with spectacular results, you will be over the moon with the Panasonic DMP UB-900. If you want a player that will handle just about anything else, you're probably going to want to purchase something different. Getting it to play region B or C discs is more difficult than other (generally cheaper) models. "Top Menu" alone generally does not work. There are a handful of non-A region discs I cannot figure out how to get it to play at all. As for DVDs, it will not play anything other than R1 or R0 NTSC. Even R0 PAL discs will not play, it does not display or convert PAL. Where it shines, and I mean really shines, is its upconversion of 2k to 4k. This can be genuinely stunning, and is easily the best reason to purchase this player. The RCA outs for surround channels are a big plus as well. In retrospect I would probably go with a different player that can play every video I threw at it (it also will not play SACD or DVDA discs). What it can play however, it's hard to find fault with. I have not tested its 3D functionality.

Great audio & 3D. No UHD, locked w/out mods, DVDs look meh
2 of 4 found this helpful The Oppo BDP-103 is admittedly a pretty cool machine. It plays pretty much every type of media except 4k UHD, including SACD and DVDA, and has RCA outs for individual channels. This makes it appealing to music collectors, and its solid build means it should last awhile. Menus are easy to navigate, 3D easier to get going than some players, and it converts 2D to 3D well if not amazingly. On the downside, it won't play anything other than r1 BD without a soft or hardware mod. Top menu doesn't work. Oppos kind of built a reputation on "playing everything", and I guess earlier models did right out of the box, but not the BDP-103 (or later). It's easy to mod it to play all region DVDs (for free, google Oppo superdisc), but you can only BD region 1 without a mod. In fact, the Oppo BDP-103 is one the most region locked players out there in terms of BD. Once modded they play, and modding it is pretty easy as of this writing with modifications currently available on the net. But you will need to factor in paying extra for the mod if you want it to play all region BD. Video-wise it performs well, though there are newer machines that do a better job converting DVD to 4K. Up-conversion of DVD is only very good (at best). It still looks decent, but my Panasonic UB900 converts DVD to 4K so well I don't necessarily feel the need to upgrade to BD where it's an option. This is definitely not the case with the 103. It's still a great 1080p machine with excellent features, but if you don't need the audio or 3D bells and whistles, you may want to try a newer, likely cheaper machine. I do not have the 103D, so I can't speak to how Darbee performs. Lack of UHD, DVD up-conversion and region locked Blu Ray without modification are its weak spots. Audio options, performance, and 3D are where it shines.

Good price for decent, easy espresso
For the price I can’t imagine a better machine as easy to use or clean that produces as good an espresso. If I have a real complaint it’s that steaming the milk so far has produced a plastic-y taste, but rather than try and see if this goes away I just use a steamer/frother I already had. People looking to dial their espresso in, find a machine to mod, or have a more personal experience with their coffee/maker, will probably want a more robust machine. If you just want decent espresso in the morning and can follow instructions, this is a good and relatively affordable option
