Dell T5500 Desktop Computer Workstation Six Core Xeon X5650 12GB 1TB Win 7 Pro

Old tech, but still very nice.
I purchased this several years ago, as an off lease refurb. It's not the latest tech. In theory, the BIOS limits you to 2TB storage drives; it didn't recognize the 2TB drive I attempted to install, so I suspect it's actually limited to 1TB. The MB has proprietary fan headers; 3rd party adapters are available online. Max RAM is 8GB/module, the MB accepts six, and the optional 2nd CPU riser accepts 3. You can still find the 2nd CPU riser online; I just added that myself. It defaults to RAID; you have to change the settings in the BIOS to avoid that, and install the OS afterward. It works fine with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. The PS/2 ports don't work with the more recent OSs. It will accept 2 video cards; the 2 true 16x slots are far enough apart that you can have 2 2-slot video cards, although that wipes out most of the other add-on slots. The other 16x slots are actually 8x. It's designed for a max of 4 storage drives. The optical drive it comes with is not recognized by Windows 10. It doesn't come with a memory card reader, but has 1 free 5.25 and 1 3.5 front panel bay so adding one isn't a problem; there is a USB 2.0 Type A header on the MB for this purpose. You'll need to replace the video card it comes with, as it uses a no longer supported DVI variant connector; you can still find cables for it, but that takes some effort. Dell still has all the manuals, etc., on their website. They're well written. You _will_ need them if you do anything inside the case. It will continue to meet my needs for some time to come.

Works. May interfere with pre-boot options (F2, etc.) being available.
Plugged it into the PCI slot, attached it to (4) 2TB HDDs (max my BIOS would support), booted the system and it worked like a charm. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that since installing it I'm not seeing the usual prompts for entering into the various pre-boot utilities for my MB. I'm using it with a Dell Precision T5500 WorkStation, and there are times I really do need to be able to access those. I haven't verified if I can pull them up anyway, or if connecting the boot drive to this controller would make them show up again, or if it's just not possible if I'm using this add-on card. Dell Precision T500 T7500 2nd CPU Fan Heatsink Assembly W715F W567F U987F F306F

OEM really is the best in this case.
This is the OEM CPU/Memory heatsink/fan assembly for the Dell Precision T5500 2nd CPU Riser Card. That card uses a non-standard means of attaching the heatsink, so it isn't easy to utilize other heatsink assemblages marketed for the relevant chipset, never mind Dell utilizing non-standard power connectors for the CPU & Memory fans. It works. It does the job. It fits within the space available without blocking any expansion slots (which cannot be said of heatsinks not specifically targeted at this riser card if you do succeed in kludging a means of fastening them, as i know from experience...) I'm very glad I found a source for this.
