An old memory
I purchased this book because I believed it was the first non-picture book I read as a kid. I am pleased to say it was and I’m happy the version I received was a school copy. The only thing that would have made it better was if the copy was from my school. Still it had the old card from its school along with checkouts from the 70s when I read it. The nostalgia was thick to say the least.
I won’t say it’s a fantastic book but for a young reader it is a good story and an easy read. I had reading challenges as a boy so reading was hard. This book about 15 year old getting his license to fly a glider inspired me enough to get to the end, a first for me as a boy.
It has taken me years to figure out what the book was since I only remembered what the cover looks like and the story. As good as google is sometimes it catches a word or two and you go down the wrong rabbit hole. Every so often I would try a different search each and I finally found what was probably it. The next problem was the cover since nobody has a picture. An email or two confirmed the cover was close to what I remembered. When I received the book it was the exact cover from my youth.
I read the book in about 45 minutes which took me 3 weeks as a kid. I am happy with my purchase and to be able to share the book with my daughter.
