Please send me a picture of it playing on your turntable if you have been listening to it. If you are keeping it sealed as a collector I get that too. I will send you a picture of my latest phono cartridge find... A truly superb Highphonic MC-A6... I have not heard a cartridge this good at everything in my 50 years of vinyl madness, and I have owned a lot of great cartridges, but this one takes the blue ribbon. :D.

the Mundorf Supreme Silver Oil coupling high end audio capacitor, maybe the world's best.
This review concerns the Mundorf Supreme Silver Oil audio coupling capacitor, the 1000v 0.10 uF and 1000v 0.22 uF versions.
This review was done by myself and another audiophile after a relatively exhaustive trial and error process using a DIY KT120 Single ended stereo amp and a DIY EL34 Push Pull stereo amp. The driver stage for the KT120 was an NOS Telefunken 12AX7 and the EL34 were driven by NOS RCA black plate 6SN7s. No real expense was spared in the construction of these amplifiers (best tubes, best OPTs,etc. there is no hum or noise evident...) and as such they sound superb and allowed us to discern the differences in the sound of these coupling caps which in some cases was subtle and in others very obvious. The source material and volume were very well controlled for this experiment and every effort was made to keep the conditions of the A-B comparison identical.
Fast summary: (The details of the testing would take pages):
The testing was done using the following coupling caps [same values], Sprague Orange Drops, same values. Russian K40Y-9 PIO caps same values, relcaps, Wima MKP caps, AurCaps, Intertechnik Audyn True copper Max caps, and the Mundorf Supreme Silver Oil Cap.
The short answer is that in all cases the Supreme Silver Oil cap was superior and the next closes preferred cap in the review was the Russian K40Y-9.
The Mundorf is a relatively expensive cap, but not too expensive. If you buy from this seller on Ebay you will pay between $28-33 /cap. They are truly superb sounding coupling caps and I can highly recommend them. Many others have reviewed them on the net with a wider assortment of competitors and pretty much agree.
The Best Bargain in coupling caps is the Russian K40Y-9 caps for about 1/4 the price coming in second in our trial, available also on Ebay. But if you really want to get the BEST sound, spend the little extra money for the Mundorfs and hear the extreme music detail and amazing "liquid" midrange that you have been missing. You will go back and listen to every LP and CD in your collection to hear what you have missed.
Ultimately four pairs of Mundorf Supreme Silver Oil caps were purchased over a course of a month as at each stage they had a positive impact on the listening experience.
NOTE: We did not audition the Mundorf Supreme Silver Gold Oil caps which would be the next step in the review process, but we had read others who had compared the two with mixed opinions as to which was better, ultimately more to do with the synergies of the other components in the circuit.

12AX7 ECC83 KEN-RAD Tested

BEST ECC83 / 12AX7 preamp tube EVER the 1949-1952 Ken-Rad (or GE) made in Owensboro Ky
Absolutely the BEST 12AX7 out there. The KEN-RAD 12AX7 will blow the doors off of your classic Telefunken or Mullard or RCA black plate ECC83 / 12AX7 (all of which are quite good). The 1949-1952 KEN-RAD is the best for overall rich detailed sound with shimmering highs and great solid deep bass, plus silky smooth engaging midrange and vocals. If you haven't heard one of these in your preamp application or phono preamp you are missing out. The Ken-rads were made in OwensBoro KY plant from 1949 through 1951, although GE bought the manufacturing line so some of these fantastic tubes were labeled with a GE label but must be dated 1949-1952 and show the place of manufacture. The tubes are easily identifiable because of the nickel carbonized plates (very unique) and the dimpled horseshoe D shaped getters. I did a shoot out for the best 12AX7 tubes, and after trying over 35 different 12AX7 pairs and spending over $1000, there was no question that these particular Ken-Rad or GE 12AX7s made in the Owensboro KY plant were the very best... the difference is not subtle. I then went on a quest to purchase as many as I could get my hands on and currently have 11 in my possession and two I sold to a friend. If you want the very best for a 12AX7 preamp tube in any application, this is THE tube. Good Luck and enjoy the wonderful difference.
