    Raintree County (VHS, 1957)
    Mar 14, 2025
Despite the video’s good points, the video needs a 2.35:1 aspect ratio presentation.
Picture and sound quality of the VHS video are good. This release also includes some restored footage. However, “Raintree County” should have been released in a widescreen format to accommodate the original film’s MGM Camera 65 aspect ratio. The pan-and-scan ratio used on this video loses too much of the original picture.

Blu-ray edition of 1953’s “Titanic” is a quality entertainment.
Picture and sound quality are excellent. Special effects are good for the period when the film was made. Bonus features are:another plus.

Raintree County DVD: What a disappointment!
This is a terrible edition of the M-G-M classic Raintree County. Audio quality is dull, slightly muffled. Video quality is supposedly widescreen, but it looks like it was transferred for a standard-sized TV screen. A film shot in Camera 65 should have an aspect ratio of at least 2.35:1. Not so in this release. The film should have a running time of at least 168 minutes (general release version), but this disc runs 160 minutes due to the omission of the film’s overture and intermission/en’tracte music. In all, Raintree County deserves a complete restoration and a quality DVD and Blu Ray release. Sadly the copy I purchased on eBay isn’t it. Definitely not recommended!
