NEW BATMAN RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS BLU RAY DVD TARGET EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK
    Nov 30, 2016
    Zap, Pow, Bam! Holy entertaining!
I must admit I was a little sceptical about this entire project the I first heard about it. A new animated film? Voiced by Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar? Would they still sound the same? Featuring The Joker, Penguin and Riddler too voiced by other people?. How would that work... or could it? Anyway, being a life long fan of the show i thought to myself "how bad can it be?" and decided to buy it. I couldn't just get the regular edition and being a bit of a sucker for steelbooks decided to go for that option. (Am so glad I did). I will address the steelbook first. It is gorgeous!! The artwork is just great and really gives a feeling of nostalgia as soon as you look at it. The colours are vibrant and just right for this. The regular blu-ray has the same picture on it but it is a less detailed version of this and nowhere near as good. Inside artwork is a larger image of the Batmobile as seen on the front which works well. The rear of the steelbook shows the Bat Signal with the words "TO THE BATCAVE!" and the iconic red telephone. Simple, but it works okay for me. Inside there are 2 discs, a DVD (with a blue image printed on it) and of course a blu-ray (with black printing). I'm not sure of the thinking of doing it that way round but it's not a problem. The paperwork with digital codes etc is also present. In short... a very nicely presented steelbook and if you have the blu-ray set of the original series (why wouldn't you) it looks just great alongside it. Now the film itself. It's obviously not going to be exactly as the original show was, I don't think it's trying to be but what it is amounts to a very clever re-working and updated for todays audience. Adam West does (obviously) sound older as do Burt Ward and Julie Newmar and you could argue that their voices don't quite match what you see on screen. Having said that however I wouldn't have it any other way! The supporting cast I must say did a stellar job of recreating the characters voices and I personally think it sounded remarkably authentic. There are some nice touches throughout the movie which I will not go into for obvious reasons. Let's jus say that there were plenty of nods to the original series. In conclusion then. This was a very enjoyable watch for an ageing Batman fan of the original series. I'm too old now to go running round the garden in my mask and cape... but it put a big smile on my face just as it did when I first saw the show all those years ago. I would thoroghly recommend it to any Bat fan but don't wait too long for the steelbook though as I'm sure that stocks will run out soon and then they will appear on eBay etc at much higher prices.
