Criminal Justice: Complete Collection (DVD, 2012, 4-Disc Set) BRAND NEW SEALED
Sep 11, 2022
BUY IT! BUY IT!
I just finished watching this four DVD set after falling in love with the US series THE NIGHT OF. CRIMINAL JUSTICE (the first BBC series) by Peter Moffat (no relation to Stephen) is two five-episode series in which we follow the stories of a young man accused of murder, and in the second series, a woman accused of killing her husband. There is much, much more to the stories here, and both series offer a scathing indictment of the judicial system of the United Kingdom. Everyone has their own agenda, and the accused is just a small part of a slowly turning, grinding monster that really doesn't care about rights or reality. Well worth your time, and worth owning.
`ROLLING STONES,THE` FROM THE VAULT-LIVE IN LEEDS 1982 (DVD) - (GERMAN I DVD NEW
Jul 14, 2022
Great show, with some sadness.....
Great show, with some sadness.....this is the last stop on the Stones' World Tour of 1981 and 1982. The show is recorded live in Leeds, and we have heard it before, but not seen it this way. It was filmed and vaulted until the DVD issue in 2015. Picture is, of course, broadcast quality, with small visual sweeps which were technically cool for 1982. The setlist is almost the same as that of the Hampton, Virginia DVD from the 1981 show, but production on this concert is quite excellent and different, and the picture is sharp and the sound remixed by Bob Clearmountain for this release. Mick is, as always, head cheerleader, bringing the crowd into the show as much as possible. The audience gets their Leeds lungs out nicely on "You Can't Always Get What You Want", as you would expect. Keith leans into his guitar often, and Ronnie confidently takes lead when appropriate. After two successful previous bands, he was definitely born to be a Rolling Stone. And, if you look close, you will recognize Gene Borge on Sax. Yep, it's Daddy G from Norfolk, Virginia's own Church Street Five (Think "Quarter to Three"). And Chuck Leavell is also here on keyboards. He's still around, and always works with the Stones. It's sad, in a way, to see this in 2022, forty years down the line. Bobby Keys, saxophonist to the stars, left us in 2014. Ian Stewart, the Sixth Stone with the lantern jaw and tousled grey hair, boogied on the piano on his last tour with his band (he was with the Stones from the very beginning, but Andrew Oldham didn't think he "looked like a Rolling Stone") here. He left us in 1985. And, of course, the rock-solid anchor of the band, Charlie Watts, dapper to the last, left us in 2021. It's good to see all of them in full flower, and to have the cameras capture each of them having the time of their lives in Leeds in 1982. The LP from this tour never really did the shows justice, as it was a single disc with a truncated setlist. I never cared for this particular Stones album in LP form, but I am so happy to see the whole show right here on DVD and Blu-Ray for us to enjoy forever. This is the way it should be seen. With both Mick and Keith now 78, and Ronnie now 75, we may never see another tour. That's okay. We have these Archive sets now, the vaults raided for classic shows with band members we will not see again. Thank you, Charlie, Bobby and especially Stew. Boogie on!
The Munsters DVD - A Rob Zombie Film ( ships 9/24/2022)
Oct 08, 2022
Better than expected!
Well, I'm in the minority. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. WOW! set design and execution, great costuming, wonderful makeup design and cinematography. Daniel Roebuck as The Count (not yet Grandpa, as there is not yet an Eddie) was marvelous, Jeff Daniel Phillips tried hard and Sheri Moon Zombie was okay. Sylvester McCoy was a joy! Rob's script was better than I expected, but I sure wish he had let a really good comedy writer or two throw in their two cents (maybe some folks from BETTER CALL SAUL and BREAKING BAD--now, there is excellent comedy within a somewhat dark framework! Maybe Lester's head on a tortoise). In the commentary Rob talks about how hard it was to get the movie made, so kudos for what everyone was able to achieve. If Universal wants him to do a sequel, I hope he teams with a couple of other writers who love THE MUNSTERS as much as he does for the script. And Sheri and Jeff should step aside for really good actors (Sorry, but that's my opinion). I did enjoy the movie, and it's in my library now. I will watch it several more times.
