Dual sponge works great. You can even take carbon impregnated sponges.

Plant Life?
Excellent quality, well built.
Plant growth is almost guaranteed with this filter system. Nutrients collect in the substrate, thus inducing growth, and healthy bacterial system (clear water) is a nice result of this type of system, all particles are trapped in the root column......plants love it, and bottom feeders too!

I See the Light!
This light is great, you can almost see the plants in the room grow. My aquarium plants love them also the colors of my red cabomba are deep and rich, go figure from across the room even.
