"Great book! entertaining, informative, and MASSIVE !"
I love this book. At the time of its second (revised and updated) edition it was the most extensive and thorough reference volume covering the vast field of science fiction. Although 30 years have passed since its publication, it's still a fascinating, detailed, and accessible book ; neither dry nor academic. I return to it often (plus, I got a good deal on it on ebay). Maugham's greatest novel in a high quality edition
I've only just started this book, with the excellent introduction and Maugham's fascinating chronology.In his 90 + years HE LIVED THE LIFE HE WROTE ABOUT: surgeon, spy, and world traveler. I've read his short stories: they're great. and this is considered his greatest.
