An 80 year old toy train car
2 of 2 found this helpful Very hard to write a review regarding restoring an 80 year old American Flyer Zephyr aluminum toy train car.
Condition is subjective to the viewer's expertise in bringing a neglected car back to operating condition.
Usually not much is wrong mechanically, and replacement parts are available in the secondary market. The challenge (in my case) is to restore the car's exterior finish to near factory-like condition, which means extensive physical effort to clean and polish the oxidized and stained surface. Others may view the patina of the car's surface as a testimony of it's many years of faithful service to many happy owners!
The decision to purchase and restore an American Flyer Zephyr car will allow the adventurous railway fan to appreciate the craftsmanship and effort that went into making a quality toy train during the 1930's.
