Nice black and white photographs and commentaries on how they were made.
The main theme of this book is to teach using descriptions of photographs depicted in the book that were made with black and white film using a large format camera. As such, the technical aspects of the photographs will not be of much interest to the legions of people who now use digital equipment.
Nevertheless, the author also comments on the most difficult part of photography, which is that of making meaningful photographs. And in that sense, the book will have interest for anyone who struggles with the need to photograph, to be out there looking for something although oftentimes not knowing what, in order to cycle one's experiences and ideas through a language other than words.
I like the book for the well crafted Black and White photographs. There are probably many people who would look at the photographs and say something like "they aren't all that great", or "I could do better", but that is just talk.
This author got out there and did it, and in my mind he did it well.

Portraits that tell a story
If you are interested in portrait photography, and you want to tell a story about your subject when you make their portrait, then you will find this book both informative and instructive. There are many examples of portraits made a various locations that not only portray the subject, but also show something about the subject at the same time. It is a very good book and is highly recommended for those who are interested in making more than just head and shoulders portraits.
