About
Ebayer from long ago (personal purchases and purchasing for the company AppIQ), now back. I suspect I will be picking up bits and bobs for the house, yard equipment, and for fun Arduino projects.

Works with Craftsman 917.271131 42" mower from March 2000
1 of 1 found this helpful Rec'd part number 592866501, which fits my ancient Craftsman 42" model 917.271131 from early 2000. The way it attaches may have changed slightly along the top of the chute, but it's no biggie. I removed the original deflector and modified the bracket with a post to make a 3rd lashing point for the new chute. Works GREAT. Note that you will need separate hardware to strap this to your deck. You can use your existing straps if you have them, else they're easy to find. Very happy with this purchase to replace my old chewed chute.

Lawn looking better
Been struggling to get an even cut with my ancient Craftsman lawn tractor. I used this device to level the blades, not the deck (which is talked about in the manual), and I think it's about dialed in now. Simple product that helped me with a frustrating process. I like the dial that lets you save a measurement - nice touch.

Exact fit for my '00 917-series 42" riding mower, steering slop improved
Exact fit for my ancient Craftsman 917.271131 lawn tractor (42", built March 2000).
The product is not difficult to install, but it's likely you'll be removing the steering wheel, column, and steering gear assembly. I recommend taking the mower deck off for easier access. Hint: There is a small line on the sector gear to align the Pittman shaft, if you wind up separating them without marking them. I didn't have to separate them - I was able to get the old steering shaft support out and replace it without having to remove the sector gear or Pittman off the splined shaft.
The old part was egged out. Replacing this part took out a lot of the slop in the steering and makes the lawn tractor easier to drive. The slop was a bit more than half a turn before, now about 1/5 of a turn. Worth it.
