Better than MKX & MK11, but still has the same issues as before.
While it’s still not up to par with the superior PS5 & Xbox Series ports (not including the PC port because it’s got major issues still as of this writing), Mortal Kombat 1 for the Switch has received some much needed updates that makes it playable for those who either don’t have the other consoles or want to play on the go.
As for the game itself, it’s better than Mortal Kombat X & Mortal Kombat 11. But it still suffers from the same issues as the previous entries, such as blatant in-game micro-transactions, paying to unlock certain characters rather than doing it the right way by playing through the game, and SJW/Woke politics affecting things such as the female fighters wearing less revealing clothing and Jax’s arcade ladder ending from MK11, albeit there seems to be less of it here in MK1 this time around.
I would say wait until the inevitable complete edition arrives with all the dlc characters and even more content, find a used copy for cheap, or hold off until the game gets uppercutted into the bargain bin.

Underrated Kevin Smith flick
Of all of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse movies (not counting the Jay & Silent Bob Reboot), Mallrats is the most underrated one of all. Critics decried it upon release, but has since grown to become a cult classic. I mean a movie about two guys dumped by their girlfriends hanging out in a mall trying to win them back, engaging in some wacky antics, including with Jay & Silent Bob while also simultaneously throwing in comic book and pop culture references? Who’d not wanna see that?
The movie is great from start to finished and the cast do a great job, especially Jason Lee. The humour is great, although since this is a Kevin Smith film and a View Askewniverse film, there’s a ton of vulgar humour filled with sex jokes, etc. I think the best moment where this film shines is Stan Lee speaks with Brodie. Best. Stan Lee cameo. Ever. And I chuckled when I saw a Mallrats easter egg during his cameo in Captain Marvel, which in my opinion, was one of the only few things I liked from that terrible movie.
Any cons I have with film? Well, like I said before, this is a Kevin Smith, so you might be turned off by his kind of humour. But if that doesn’t bother you, cool. Michael Rooker was awesome (I mean, this guy went on to play a gun-toting priest in Shadowbuilder and Yondou from Guardians of the Galaxy), but I would’ve loved to see more scenes with him. Jeremy London does fine, but I think Jason Lee outshines him performance-wise.
As of this review, I have yet to watch the Extended Cut, so I can’t compare it to the original theatrical cut at the moment. Expect an update when I see it.
As for the Arrow Video Limited Edition? Worth the price I got this one for, although there was a crack on the bottom corner hinge of the case. Thankfully, both discs were not loose and damaged and all of the included collectibles are intact. I had to purchase a new case to store both discs in. You get a nice two-sided poster each with Jay & Silent Bob’s operations to take down LaFours and stop the game show, although I would’ve liked to have gotten the original movie poster instead. The booklet is a good read and no, I can’t see the sailboat on the cover. And since this a limited edition, you get another Blu-ray Disc with both the extended cut and the television version of Mallrats along with a few goodies. Why Arrow Video didn’t put the extended cut on the same disc as the theatrical cut puzzles me since the regular Mallrats blu-ray had both cuts on one disc. Even still, getting the limited edition was the right move. As for the bonus features, I would’ve liked to see a few ported over from previous releases, but all of the included features, including new interviews with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, are still worth checking out.
Overall, great movie, great Arrow Video release. Highly recommended if you can find a copy of the limited edition.
