Excellent camera let down by a faulty component
5 of 5 found this helpful I chose this camera because I wanted no more than 5mp (any more is unnecessary for snapshots), a 1/1.8 sensor, an optical viewfinder, and as small a body as possible. After comparing every online review for every camera that matched those criteria, the Ixus 400 consistently produced the best results for colour, chromatic aberration, low noise, and sharpness both for macro and zoom shots. It has a top quality lens, simple user interface and a certain amount of manual control, although the auto settings give very good results. So far, I have been extremely pleased with the pictures I have taken. One minor drawback is the small electronic viewfinder (11/2") but it is very bright and clear and has the same number of pixels as many larger viewfinders in other models. The optical viewfinder is very useful, because although small, enables me to take photos in bright sunlight. Now for the downside and the reason I don't give it an excellent: the compact flash unit in this model has a known fault which results in a communication error between the camera and the compact flash card. This will prevent pictures being taken and pictures already on the card being erased. It shows up as different messages on the viewfinder usually "memory card error." There are temporary fixes like taking out the card and battery, or if that doesn't work, taking out the internal battery which requires time and a very small screwdriver! There is an online well-illustrated guide showing how to do this. The good news is that for this specific problem, Canon will replace the faulty unit free of charge if the camera is sent to one of its repair centres. They will do this for any Ixus 400. It is necessary to contact the Canon Self-service centre through their website and await their instructions. My camera gave the memory card error as soon as we received it from the seller, who kindly offered to take the camera back but I decided to persist and get it fixed. I tried the temporary fix but have now sent the camera to Colchester Camera repair centre and am waiting to get it back. Despite this drawback, I would still buy this camera again.

Works well
The cover is crystal clear, it fits the phone perfectly and was easy to put on. Also came in a strong packet reducing risk of breakage in the post (which I've had happen before).

Hope it works
0 of 2 found this helpful So far the monitor has read zero carbon monoxide. I don't know if that means it's working and there is none, or that it's not working. I haven't been asphyxiated yet but I wasn't before I got the monitor. If it sounds an alarm warning of CO it will have been a priceless safety device, otherwise I have no idea how good it is.
