DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS EXCEPTIONAL HISTORICAL NOVEL
Kline's book "Orphan Train" is an exceptionally well-written historical fiction novel about a part of U.S. history most Americans are unaware. I did not know that over a period of 30 years over 200,000 children were taken out of NYC to the midwest - Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa - to be "adopted". Some children fortunately landed in great loving homes, others were placed in hard labor or sweat shops. The book pulls together the story of the orphan train children of the late 1800's and early 1900's (through 1929) with the foster care children of today. It is a well-documented novel that I recommend without hesitation. When you start the book, be prepared to be engrossed until the final page. The end notes with her resources are quite interesting AND there are superb book discussion questions at the close. Purchase and know you will be glad you spent the money and time reading.
