This item does not inflate upward to expand in height. It does inflate to conform to your body and maintain alignment. I use it at work because it has a vinyl like exterior fabrication that is impermeable to fluids and stains (a frequent exposure when working as a nurse). I am far less fatigued at the end of my 12-13hr shift when wearing this. It keeps me from twisting and stressing my spine when hoisting heavy wet linen bags into a hopper for transport. I am highly satisfied and recommend it over the OTC products. OTC products fail to conform and are too tall for my torso. I've already lost over an inch in height. Hope this keeps me from further damage. Hope the air chamber lasts a long time. I feel like the 'automatic pilot'!!
