Bond by Design: The Art of the James Bond Films
    Dec 26, 2017
    Great, but not perfect
I was fully aware that what I was purchasing was used. The outer protective case did have some wear and damage, but nothing too significant. I would consider it's condition "Good", but not "Very Good". The inside book itself was in near perfect condition. Shipping was extremely fast. I don't know if that was intended by the shipper or that we were only like a state apart, but shipping was nearly overnight. As for just the book, Bond by Design, I can honestly say (hand on heart) this is a good product for a Bond fan. I have been collecting Bond memorabilia for nearly 30 years and have amassed quite a collection. Most of the books on the Bond phenomena simply regurgitate the same pictures, "facts", and information. It is a rare occurrence that I see anything new. However, I can say that most of the material in this book you will only find in this book (maybe outside of the International Spy Museum in Wasington DC that has some of the original storyboards from the Bond movies. At $25 used on Ebay, I found this to be a perfect price point for the new material albeit with slight cosmetic damage. Would buy again.
Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 140mm and 120mm SSO Dual Fan CPU Cooler Heatsink BH015

    Used, but OK
I knew what I purchased was going to be used from the get-go, but what I was not expecting was the two aluminum heat sink towers to be out of alignment. This misalignment caused installation problems since I was not comfortable bending the heat-pipes after they had clearly already been bent once. However, once installed, the unit performed just as I would expect a Noctua cooler to do. I did have to mount the cooler vertically, instead of the normal horizontal orientation, due to interference with a passive heatsink on my X58 EVGA Classified motherboard. I would say 10/10 for the cooler, and 7/10 for the seller for not disclosing the misalignment.

New Life to X58 EVGA Classified
I installed this processor in my X58 EVGA Classified using the Westmere solder mods (two solder locations). This was an upgrade from my i7-920. With this chip I saw a huge performance improvement. I also put a Noctua NH-D14 cooler on this for some overclocking headroom. I was able to overclock to 4.0 GHz on the stock voltage. I was able to overclock to 4.5 GHz with the max 1.35volts, but the thermals were too high under load; especially for a render farm machine which will be seeing full load 24/7. With the 4.0GHz overclock, some benchmarking software is states equivalent performance to a stock i7-7700K (no overclock applied); this isn't bad considering the age of the X5690 processor. I also fully acknowledge that the X5690 is a six-core CPU while the i7-7700K is a quad-core; so there is no substitute for the latest and greatest technology. I would say the X5690 is a great purchase for someone wanting the absolute best performance for their old X58 platform. The X5690, at $100, may not be the best performance per cost as some of the other used Xeons in the family, but if you want the absolute best CPU ever made for the X58 socket, this is where your money should go.
