5 STAR FILM, BLU-RAY COMPROMISE
This is a BEAUTIFUL film, a very rare kind of masterpiece that can actually change your life if you can relate to it.
I think it's also one of the most important 'Fatherly' films ever made.
There is much here, so much.
Beautifully Human.
All that being said, this film never seems to get its due respect, not even an HD effort until now with this 2023 release.
I rated this Blu-ray 5 stars because it is the first and only ever HD release for Islands.
I was happy with my DVD releases but I knew Blu-ray would be better, and this new Blu-ray is a positive step in a good direction but there's room for improvement.
It basically looks like the same master used for the DVD, including some scratches and lots of grainy 'artifacts' in the video.
There's no excuse for this, any film of any age can be made to look pristine and I'm a little disappointed more effort wasn't made to restore this fine work of Cinematic Art.
If you admire Islands in the Stream like I do then YES, I recommend this Blu-ray edition, it is an improvement over the DVDs overall.
Would I buy a RESTORED 4K edition?

EXQUISITE 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I haven't experienced anything this beautifully innovative since the Beatles or Tiny Tim!
Nomi was a living instrument, his voice created sonic environments....shows in all his work.
I very much hope all of his visual performances will be restored and released very soon.
I don't think we shall ever see his like again and I regret he came to us during the early days of AIDS.
If Heaven has Radio I am sure Nomi songs are playing 24/7....

Essential Nimoy Vehicle
This is an excellent production and a very fun spooky mystery in the best British tradition, perfect for Anglophiles!
It's great to see Mr. Nimoy flex his talents in another direction and he is great here.
Too bad this pilot wasn't picked up for a series, it had real potential.
This Region 2 UK edition is by far the BEST edition possible at this time, the Region 1 has worse audiovisual quality, but neither are perfect restorations. This release contains the UK 86 minute version and a production stills gallery slideshow in excellent quality.
Recommended!
