Cotter Bother
My experience with cotter pins - I have replaced about a dozen in my life. These are the softest and poorest in appearance in my experience - see photo - hole not centred in nut and washer not round. Hopefully they won't damage the cranks...

A 5400 on steroids!
2 of 2 found this helpful Bought from first owner on eBay on the strength of my experience with the Nikon Coolpix 5400. On arrival with me the CCD unit was dead, Nikon replaced it under warranty and returned it to me within three weeks. Very pleased with Nikon service!
The camera performs slightly faster than the 5400 but doesn't match the pace of the 5400 for continuous shots. Also, the EVF switches off during continuous shooting making it difficult to follow a moving subject. The 5400 also has much longer timed exposures and a very handy time lapse shooting mode. Both cameras suffer from having no distance guide when using manual focus. Both cameras do have a flexible screen which is of great value, something lacking on most (all?) dSLRs!
My best photos from the 5700 have been in macro mode, surprisingly perhaps with it's long zoom lens but in order to take advantage of full zoom much light and a steady hand are needed. I find that despite the larger CCD unit and the bigger lens the photos are not noticeably better than those produced by the 5400.
It is a beautifully made piece of equipment and as with the 5400 I would say it is designed by people who want to use it themselves. Unlike the cycle lanes in London!
I feel it necessary to compare it to the 5400, possibly only because I have both cameras and in conclusion I think it worth noting that I usually take the 5400 with me in preference. It seems to be the more versatile of the two cameras. Nonetheless, a great piece of kit with lots of accessories and spare parts available new and used and a lot of them are compatible with the 5400.

Not Canon at their best but OK.
2 of 2 found this helpful Canon replaced my failed IXUS v2 with an IXUS 40. I prefered the v2. Simple as that. At this time I have had the IXUS 40 for about 3 months or so and I've taken about 1000 photos with it.
The IXUS 40 is smaller, lighter and faster in every respect but not as accurate at focusing as the IXUS v2. The photos are not as clear as the v2 and there is noticeably more purple fringing throughout and softness (blur) in the corners of the photo, especially top left.
The IXUS 60 is much improved over the IXUS 40.
