Well made, lightweight, ...so far, so good

A solid piece of professional gear
0 of 1 found this helpful I have decades of experience in the audio industry.
I've worked in some major studios over the years, for some of the biggest names in music, and I've come to know Universal Audio as one of the most trusted companies in recording. Just picked one of these up for my project studio. This unit delivers. It's simplified 'Levelling Amplifier' section is easy to use, and the tubes give the preamp and eq section give that dense, warmth you'd expect, with subtle amounts of control. Nothing radical or extreme here, but it's a reliable piece of gear, very similar to what we pros have used faithfully for decades.

good for the price
A pretty good light fixture overall, however there are a few issues with them:
• no matter if you're using the build in 'shows' or a DMX controller, there are lags between speed and direction changes
• when it is turned on, there is a series of quiet 'clunks' that it makes, and at least 30 seconds to wait before the fixture lights up
• even using the 14 channel DMX lighting protocol, I found that sometimes the colour I'd programmed was different upon playback, perhaps because the settings are so close together in the numeric menu
• no matter how slow you set the 'speed' (for the programmed shows), it's a busy fixture - not well suited to more calm moods (for slow songs if you're a dj for instance)
• the 'strobe' feature doesn't really work like a conventional strobe. Historically, a strobe light flashes on just very quickly, then goes off for an interval before the next flash. The effect is supposed to freeze motion intermittently. This is basically a pulsing of coloured light, either very quickly or slowly, however it's not a true strobe effect.
Overall - for the price, you can't go wrong - how long it last will remain to be seen (I've had a couple of other ADJ products in this Stinger line, and, because of all the moving parts, they aren't that reliable over time.
VERY wide coverage, with the moonflower settings.
