Good for b/w, not so much for color. Very loud.
1 of 1 found this helpful I got this to scan my sketchbook pages, as they are too big for more common scanners. This was purchased to replace a broken Mustek flatbed of similar size. The scan resolution and quality is comparable between the two.
Anything black and white is a near perfect conversion. No complaints on that end. Unfortunately, color is a different story - I recently started drawing with colored pencils, and I've had a lot of trouble getting an accurate scan. The main issue is that the light is so bright that it blows out the color, which the level adjustments can't really fix in post. What helped was to get a thin sheet of plexiglass and place it underneath. It provides just enough diffusion that the colors become much more subtle and accurate, and it can then be fine tuned using the built in adjustments and a bit of Photoshop work afterwards. That said, it's still not perfect, and I imagine that's just a hardware limitation from a mid-grade scanner.
But my biggest issue by far is the noise. This thing is LOUD - about as loud as a kitchen mixer or a microwave. It can easily drown out any music or videos you may be listening to while using it. Had I known it was this noisy, I would have opted elsewhere to begin with. There are other scanners that can perform just as well but much more quietly. For that reason alone I wouldn't recommend getting this.
