Ceramic Sharpening Tools Sharpener Pocket Knife Sharpener Camp Kitchen Tool Hot
    Aug 28, 2018
Small, light-weight, they put a really keen edge on your (almost-sharp) knives
These tiny honing tools have been made in China for many years. Decent manufacturing quality, they hold up pretty well over time. There are two small rods on each side that remove tiny amounts of metal from your blades - the tools come in two varieties - rods covered in fine diamond dust or with a ceramic coating. Although the diamond hones are a bit more aggressive and definitely last longer, I prefer the ceramic type, as I find they give me a keener edge. Neither variety is capable of sharpening a truly dull or heavily damaged blade. But when a well-sharpened knife, whether a small pocket knife or a large kitchen knife, loses its edge a bit, one of these honing gizmos will bring the edge back quickly, using first the coarse side, then the fine side. I once skinned an elk with a pocket knife of not-great steel - if you've ever tried to cut through brittle, hollow elk hair and thick hide, you know it's a chore. It took the edge off that knife in just a couple of minutes, but with one of these tools, I just kept refining the edge and went back to work. I must have honed that knife six times, but it got the job done. I usually have one in my pocket. I keep one in each pack, one with my field-dressing kit, one in the kitchen at our off-grid property, and one in the kitchen at home.. After a few dozen uses, you'll notice a notch starting to form where the two rods come together, which of course is where the blade hits them. It's too bad you can't turn the rods, they'd last darn near forever. After the notch forms, you CAN extend the life of one of these tools by pulling the blade through the slots at a slight angle, which keeps the edge away from the notch for a while, but why bother? They're so inexpensive, it's better to just toss it and use a new one. I buy about six at a time, and always have a few replacements on hand. I have an Edge Pro Apex, an excellent multi-stone system, to sharpen my knives, and I carry an old Gerber pocket steel to work the edge-burrs, too. But these little gadgets are really handy to quickly put a keen edge on your knife.burrs, too. But these little gadgets are really handy to quickly put a keen edge on your knife.

They work. I'm ordering ten more.
What you can say about little rubber caps to protect the "nipple" ends of automotive brake bleeder screws -- either they DO fit and work...or they don't. These do. While flushing the brake systems on three vehicles, I've replaced eight worn-out or missing caps -- still have one more vehicle to go. On every one of my vehicles, these caps fit tightly over the nipples of all bleeder screws (you need to push hard and twist them while installing to get them to go on). They have a slightly spongy feel, with two layers of rubber to hold them on...it's hard to describe, but they really grip the ends of the bleeder screws and appear to give excellent protection. I don't yet know how long they'll last, but they seem to be well-made. For sixty cents each, you get a product that will keep your bleeder screws from corroding or getting clogged with grime. I'm ordering ten more.
    BLUM CABINET HINGES COMPACT 33 110 33.3600

    So far, so good
This product is mis-labeled, to a degree...it isn't really a complete Blum hinge, it's an insert to replace the part of the hinge assembly that holds the spring (band-steel type). I bought these inserts as replacements for old Blum hinges. They were 19 years old, and the springs had worn out and started breaking. Since there are two of these per door, I didn't buy new ones when only one spring snapped...I just lived with a "lazy door". Eve when both springs broke on a door, I'd just switch a hinge with one from a door with two good ones. However, I finally had so many broken hinges that I could no longer swap and cannibalize -- rats! So I broke down and bought several new hinge inserts. These replacements appear to be the same high quality as the originals. They're easy to install, and adjusting the door-fit is easy, too. They were at a good price. I can't speak to their endurance, that will take years of use to evaluate. But so far, so good.
