Great controller so far! Been using it for a week and a half.
2 of 2 found this helpful NOTE: This review makes lots of comparisons between this controller, the original Xbox one controller, and the Xbox 360 controller. Also the model number of the reviewed controller is 4N6-00001.
Not much to say about this one. The 360 controller was already quite good, and the Xbox one S controller improves on its design a bit. However I do NOT recommend treating it like a 360 controller, since every part of the Xbox one S controller feels more delicate and flimsy than its predecessor. Even its USB cord is thinner than the 360's. Read on if interested.
***Good bits***
Cable length is the same as the 360's.
The d-pad is less mushy and more click-y. The Xbox 360 controller d-pad is pure mush.
Bumpers and triggers are closer together; this makes it easier to use both in fast paced gaming (like raiding in Final Fantasy XIV)
3.5 mm headset jack on the bottom of the controller removes the need to use wireless headphones.
***Could-be-better bits***
Headset jack only works on computers running Windows 10.
USB cable is thinner than the 360's.
USB cable lacks an inline release (the extra connection near the computer end). This means that if the controller drops while connected to a lightweight computer, then that computer might fall off too.
Feels flimsier than the 360 controller. Unfortunately the negative reviews reflect on this. For example, the most common complaint that I have seen in online reviews is that the left stick may start to register movement on its own after some period of use. This seems to be common flaw among faulty controllers.
***Miscellaneous bits***
Watch for counterfeit controllers that are sold on eBay as genuine controllers! Go watch some videos on YouTube to see how convincing they can look until they are disassembled. Stay skeptical towards controllers selling less than 35 dollars (although some fakes can sell at that price) and assume that controllers labeled genuine in their listings may not be actually genuine.
