Not crazy about the title or the film I'm afraid!

This Merchant Ivory film is well done BUT -..The script is long & boring, Emma Thompson's performance is excellent but Anthony Hopkins by contrast is wooden. Christopher Reeves completely miscast.

"PADRE PIO" -. Simple & effective. needs no other words to explain such a famous monk..

A lot of money was spent to get the best actors, musical direction by Ennio Morricone. . My only comment is that it was far too long & got very tedious. It needed some tight editing, which was lacking. This was not the fault of the actors or photography, but the script itself, the direction. I preferred another version of the film I saw long ago helping to understand Padre Pio better from his native roots & upbringing. & exile from the church when he was forbidden to officiate & given the reasons WHY! The film did not stress enough the emphasis on his prayer life, since in reality he felt that he could achieve far more praying for the people on earth from heaven than while on earth....
