    KISS - Pre-order NOW! - CREATURES OF THE NIGHT 40TH ANNIVERSARY - N - X7351A
    Nov 25, 2022
    Creatures 40th Anniversary 2CD Release
Though my 2nd all time favorite KISS studio album (Revenge is my No.1 favorite), I was surprised that 40th anniversary editions were released for this record. Why? Because Paul is so bitter about Vinnie Vincent, I never thought the band would want to celebrate anything Vinnie was on. However, Creatures of the night was their musical come back album after the poppy Unmasked & The concept album--Music from the Elder. It also highlighted and spotlighted the talent of Eric Carr with a production that features a bombastic, front & center drum infused album. This album consists of songs they have played many times live: Creatures of the Night, I Love It Loud, I Still Love You & War Machine. Historically, it was an album that first featured Vinnie Vincent on lead guitar and was the last album to be recorded during their initial makeup years. The remaster of this 9 track album sounds good, but there's very few recognizable differences heard throughout the record. There's two versions of this anniversary release: a two cd version & a pricey multiple disc box set containing many collectable items like reproductions of a tour book, photos plus things such as guitar picks, posters & stickers. The 2cd set is a tad like spilled milk. The multi disc version features way more demos, rarities and live tracks, but the ones compiled on the 2 disc set are incomplete demos. The live cuts are excellent but this 2 disc set would had been better if they put on it the completed demo for Deadly Weapons & the 4 'new songs' released on a German/European 'best of' album entitled 'Killers' back in 1982--which were more or less a preview of what would come after it--the release of "Creatures of the Night". It has a pretty nice booklet that features some never before seen photos plus interview excerpts from Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Carr & album producer Michael James Jackson. I rate it a 7 out of 10 for this release, but the album itself is a defident 10++! If you're a die-hard KISS fan and if this a favorite KISS album, it's still a nice release to add to your KISS/Music Collection.
Madonna Celebration: The Video Collection (2 DVD Set, 2009) Complete w/ Poster
    Sep 12, 2022
Best Madonna Music Video Collection Yet!
Madonna is the Queen of Pop and singlehandedly put the 'M' in MTV throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She starred in groundbreaking music videos--most presented here on this "Celebration" 2 dvd set. This collection features music videos from her self-titled debut album up to the album 'Hard Candy' (IMO Hard Candy was the beginning of a decline of her great and groundbreaking music). We get on here some great classic videos such as Like a Virgin, Take a Bow, Vogue, Hung Up, Sorry, Don't Tell Me, Secret, Lucky Star, Papa Don't Preach, Express Yourself & Like a Prayer. It is missing some exceptional music videos, though, like Oh Father, Nothing Really Matters, American Life, Bad Girl, Fever and This Used to Be My Playground. One video I don't like is 'What it Feels Like For a Girl'. It's just weird with senseless violence and it features mainly a dub remix of the song. Though with some excluded videos on this release, it's still amazing, for it does contain 47 videos! I think it could had also included live performances of Holiday, Everybody, Causing a Commotion & Keep it Together. Out of all her dvd music video releases, this is the best to get.
    Kiss - Off The Soundboard - Donnington 1996 - Vinyl 3LP
    Jun 25, 2022
1996 Reunion Tour Official Live Release by KISS!
This is the complete live performance of KISS @ Donnington in 1996 during the magical and highly successful reunion tour bringing the band's original members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley & Peter Criss together for a bombastic concert experience complete with their iconic makeup, costumes and stage show which included pyrotechnics, fire breathing, blood spitting, exploding guitars and a high rise drum kit. But with all that, we must remember, it's about the classic music--filled with memorable guitar riffs, solos, over the top vocals, fantasy lyrics and beastly drums! We get 17 tracks on this vinyl/cd/mp3 release. Songs include Deuce, Shock Me, Watching You, Love Gun, Black Diamond & Detroit Rock City. Sound Quality at times don't match with this high octane performance, but it's still a fun listen. The vocals are upfront with thunderous bass. Drums sound great but for about half the show, the lead and rhythm guitars are a bit buried by the previously mentioned. Not until the song Shock Me is when the audio quality is better EQ'd. These 'Off the Soundboard' releases are as-is; there's no overdubbing on these unlike the KISS albums "Alive" I, II & III. But they could use a producer and engineer to make these better (they should had recruited Eddie Cramer to sonically tweak these). However, we get to experience the raw energy of these live tracks from KISS tours of the past during times of the band's peaks of success and musicianship. Yes, KISS is to be experienced live and this release gives us just that. So crank it up and be prepared to 'Rock n Roll All Night'!
