Could easily be your one and only
8 of 8 found this helpful This watch is easily the most versatile I own. Its build-quality, ruggedness and style allow it to go anywhere, and do anything.
The sapphire glass, 200m wr, and 6r15 movement allow it to be tough and reliable. Take it hiking, camping, snorkeling, or doing rough chores. It will keep working perfectly.
It's also one of my most beautiful watches.
The sunburst dial really is stunning. The cathedral hands are absolutely timeless. The compass ring unobtrusive, and if anyone were to notice it, it would simply imply to them that you are a cultured outdoorsman.
This watch can go from the trail to a wedding, with merely a strap change. Or leave the strap the same and let it suggest your more daring side. Of the watches I own, this one was easily the best value.

The base trim Ford Mustang of watches
6 of 6 found this helpful This watch has many similar traits as a base-level Ford Mustang. It's endearing, fun, and engaging without breaking the bank. Allow me to explain further.
The Seiko 5 line has been around since the 1960s (like Ford's ponycar). It was designed to be fun, reliable and affordable (check).
This watch lends itself well to being modified to your heart's content. There are many aftermarket parts, and you can really take this base watch and turn it into something flashy and eye-catching, or very classy and understated. You can dress it up or down to meet any occasion. Put a rubber or nylon strap on it and go in the ocean. Put a metal bracelet or leather strap on and wear it on a date. Depending on how you modify it, this watch can go anywhere. (check)
The heart of this watch is important. Sure you could get a battery-powered quartz movement. It would be more reliable and you wouldn't have to worry about it. OR you could get this watch. It's a mechanical 73S6C movement that you need to be involved with. It does not run unless you interact with it and move it. It needs you for it to keep functioning. (manual transmissions are ALWAYS more fun)
Ironic hipsters won't like it because Seiko is a big brand, not found on Kickstarter. Snobs will say it's unrefined because it's not European and costs less than four-figures. But this watch is a great value from a great company that has been doing this for a long time, to the point of perfection.
This watch is not the top of the line in the 5-series. There are others in its own family that outperform it, some have chronographs, or different bezels, etc. But this one does all the basic functions of a watch that you need. If you like the "vroom-vroom" from under a hood, you'll like the "tickticktickticktick" from on your wrist.
This is a great for someone to "get into watches" with. Maybe you'll trade it in for a fancier example down the line, maybe not. But this watch has enough character with it's mechanical movement, and versatility that you'll always remember it as your "first".
