A good start, but very much needs modification.
0 of 1 found this helpful The reason I bought this winch was for the 2 speed retrieval. That much works as advertised; the low gear is so much easier to use for the last few feet pulling the boat onto my trailer. However...
There is one very serious design flaw and that is the long handle throws the balance way off when you are trying to pull out the length of strap you need to attach to the boat bow eye. That makes it very very hard to pull the strap because the handle wants to stay down and strongly resists rising up and beginning to turn freely as you pull. And then you can with great effort keeping it turning (barely) as the handle flops back down on every revolution and fights rising up all over again.
Sooo... I did what the manufacturer should have done; I balanced out the weight of the winch handle by adding an equal and opposite weight to counterbalance the extreme resistance. Conveniently I had the handle from my old winch that I could use for just this purpose along with a hunk of lead bolted to the end. It works beautifully now. No longer am I threatening to dislocate a shoulder reefing on that strap all while trying to maintain my footing on a slippery boat ramp. Any self respecting fishing reel manufacturer will balance the handles on a bait casting reel, even those with the power handles. It seems like such an obvious requirement that boat winches have a balanced handle as well, especially when a winch has such massive turning resistance in the neutral position.
What a perfect after-market opportunity for a budding entrepreneur!

Nice Concentrated light
This puts out great light, however I can't give any credit to the barn doors. Those are virtually useless especially as you tilt the light down in the bracket. Then the bottom barn door quickly binds in the bracket and prevents further tilting. I highly recommend an added elbow bracket so you can tilt it properly without binding. The barn doors do fold down to protect the LED bulb but that's the only benefit I see in them.
The tracing paper included for light diffusion is pretty lame, but if you want to deal with trying to keep the papers pristine for any serious location shooting, I wouldn't bother. Nowhere near the power of good studio strobes, this light is still excellent for a primary video light, but with an ISO of about 3200 it can be good for photo shoots as well.
I do wish a bag to transport it in were included. I've had to resort to an old computer laptop bag.
