Best Ever Bang for the Buck!
I will ALWAYS recommend Lego products because they are both durable and entertaining, as well as educational. I DO wish the (separately purchased) light kit were a direct Lego product, however.
Durable? Our 35-year-old autistic son still has the kits he got when he was 3 (Duplos) and he won't part with any of them (nor would I). I might add that the smaller pieces come out of a sweeper bag completely unharmed and retaining their full color...even the sturdy boxes retain their colors and shapes.
Entertaining? It took him approximately 3.5 hours to build the 1949-piece kit. Then he tore it apart and started over again. He'll go back and enjoy rebuilding it all again in a few months.
(It will take me a bit longer to remember how I used to untangle fishline in order to untangle the miniscule wires of the light kit, however.)
Educational? You bet! He's researched and learned a lot about the items he builds. We've learned what it's like to find room for, and live with more and more (and more), the completed and more complex items he's built through the years!
(Once I've got the lights squared away he will find a way to ensure they never again become tangled -- again, educational!)
In my opinion, there's very few "kids'" toys out there that can hold a candle to Legos for durability, entertainment, and life-long enjoyment and memories!
