Incredible crisp, 3-dimensional, magnified views
The 3.5-90x continuous zoom is worth the extra cost. The parts are of great quality overall. The image has a fascinating 3D quality due to the dual lenses, one for each eye. It puts you into a perspective where a gemstone can become an excercise ball containing a whole galaxy of imperfections on the interior! This contrasts greatly with the view you get from a compound microscope designed to look at slides.
It comes with a second lens that lets you zoom to even smaller scale details, but I usually don't even need to go that far considering how much you can see with the first lens.
