80s Noir Action Feature
An 80s noir film w Burt Reynolds as an Atlanta cop fighting the bureaucracy, the local crime lord, politicians on the take, and Henry Silva, as a psychotic hit man. The film begins w Reynolds, as Sharkey, as part of a narcotics bust that goes awry, and Reynolds gets demoted from narcotics to vice for the bad result. Once there, Sharkey gets a new assignment, surveilling the local vice criminals, and we get to see Sharkey's skill set emerge as he begins building working relationships w the other cops in vice and support. We get to see how they work together to target the local crime lord, and set up to build their case against him. We get bosses trying to control the scope of Sharkey's work, we get the crime lord's reach trying to keep Sharkey's team from interfering w their business network, we get nervous politicians pressuring the cops to keep Sharkey's team from embarrassing them, we get Rachel Ward as the crime lord's girl friend and Sharkey's new romantic interest, and we get Henry Silva as the drugged out bad guy, running around shooting people. We get shoot outs, tension build ups, misdirections, and we get stuntman Dar Robinson doing one of his world-famous falls from an Atlanta high rise, as part of the action We get such pros as Brian Keith, Charles Durning, Bernie Casey, Richard Libertini and John Fiedler creating the interesting characters who make up Sharkey's Machine, and make this an interesting film to watch. Boston Legal continues its legal skein of cases into season 3 with 24 more episodes. Strong writing encompasses the scope of cases from criminal insanity to hostage situations to cross-dressing to cannibalism to outright mayhem. Equally challenging are the attorneys who range from the ethically challenged to the acutely adept on legal issues to the equally charismatically creative with narrow points of law, mostly in service to their clients.
Bergen, Shatner and Spader continue to lead the legal team from Boston's Crane, Poole and Schmidt into our entertainment atmosphere. Before Govt and media censors started trolling our entertainment so severely, we were at one time presented with such biting social commentary, intense dramatic situations and wickedly outrageous humor, and we were expected to be adult enough to consume it, without the need to apologize to all the thin skinned, easily offended and politically correct now among us. Enjoy this adult entertainment now for what it is, and that it is still available.

A double-barreled, revenge-driven, action-adventure pkg: a Stephen Hopkins revenge-driven rampage thriller and a Sam Peckinpah tale of loyalty, betrayal and the revenge-driven competition that follows.
Tommy Lee Jones excels as Hopkins' unbalanced but extremely deadly IRA terrorist bomber, in Blown Away, who has escaped from prison and is setting off many bombs while pursuing the now family man, Jeff Bridges, and his Boston-based Bomb squad unit because of an incident from their shared dark political past. Action-packed, tension-filled, edge-of-the-seat events backed up by an energetic soundtrack keep you involved to the very end.
Peckinpah starts James Caan and Robert Duvall off as team partners working for a high-level private security firm, in the film Killer Elite, when Duvall betrays their mission by killing the person they were there to protect and injuring Caan w crippling wounds instead of killing him. With braces, Caan eventually becomes mobile and undertakes an aggressive rehab program to recover with when he is given another protection job for an Asian diplomat, a man Duvall is contracted to kill. The opportunity to face off w Duvall, manipulation by management and betrayals in the field take their toll on Caan. Filmed in 70s SF and around the bay area, the visuals are as exciting as the conflicts and the combat are tense. This is definitely a Peckinpah film.
This duo, from the 70s and the 90s, definitely belongs in your action-adventure film library.
