They were packed in an open foam tray, however nothing was to prevent them from falling out of the foam tray if the box was slightly tipped or turned. There was no cover on the foam tray. All models in the top of the foam case fell out, to the bottom of the box with a bunch of hardcover books and smashed tiny pieces. Disappointing.
