Good picture quality, HAF to set up
This was a tough call for me. I did a TON of research before I bought this for my 84 yr. old MIL, who is not technologically savvy. I wanted something easy for her, but something that the DILs could upload photos remotely.
The cons: This said "Setup in 2 easy steps." Well...it is DEFINITELY NOT an easy 2 step set up. It is extremely difficult, it wasn't touch screen, and it wouldn't allow us to connect a keyboard (though it kept prompting us to), the remote doesn't work until AFTER the entire process is done. So it was a royal pain to setup. Uploading photos isn't a simple process either. The only way to upload photos is through the website, or by a memory card (which we did not test because we would never use that option). If you are initially uploading more than a handful of pictures, the upload time was forever. I found a way to have her upload photos from her phone to her frame by going online and uploading them in batches, but again, slow upload, and it's a pain. There is an upload by email feature that we can send photos to her by email to her account, and I set it up to upload automatically without her having to approve them first. That feature seems to work fine. There is more than one menu for viewing/play options: one is accessed from the main startup screen, the other is accessed while in "play" mode, which is super confusing. My husband and I are both pretty technologically savvy, but this was a pain, even for us. I had gotten another brand of digital frame from my husband for Mother's Day that I love, but it was such a headache to setup (I almost returned it), and I knew that she would never be able to navigate around it. So I thought this would be good option for her.
The PROs: I think, though, that now that all of the front end of the work has been done, and I figured out the basics of how it works, and taught her how to navigate her way around it, that it will be fine for her. She DOES absolutely LOVE it!! She said it is absolutely the best gift she's ever received, and she will love seeing photos of her family and friends. The picture quality is good (unless it was a poor resolution to start with, nothing you can do about that). You can choose your screen time length, how it transitions between photos, and says it will also play videos (which we did not test). With all of the advances of technology, I'm just so puzzled why there isn't an easy interface that is user friendly. Developers really need to start making true "Set up for dummies" interfaces. Other than that, this was a good purchase.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I got it on Ebay for $96, with shipping and taxes. It was a great gift for her. She loves it. As she said....she doesn't know any other option. I'm so glad I bought it for her while she was visiting, took the time to figure it out and set it up for her, and took some time with her to teach her how to navigate around it before she returned home with it. Overall, worth it for the joy it will bring her.
