A beautiful snapshot of a time now lost....
After reading several reviews of Spender's work online, I decided to start with this novel. Partly fiction/part autobiographical, "The Temple" chronicles the journey of Spender, Christopher Isherwood, W. H. Auden as they traveled Germany before the fall of the Wiemar Empire and the rise of the Nazi Party. This time was a time of unparalleled freedom and beauty in Europe. It was a time when European writers and artists, alike traveled to Germany for that very reason. What Spender shares in "The Temple" was his experiences and what it was like to be young, intelligent and talented in a place where liberalism and intellectuals flourished.

Best recording of the genre.
Gordon Hempton has long been considered the master of wildlife recordings. Hempton has also received awards for his work. I have sought this recording out for years and have not been let down.
