MFSL perfectly captures this Raw and Unabashed Janis Joplin release
The Ultradisc one step treatment of Pearl unveils greater detail and spaciousness and with a decent sound system, gives a real sense of "being there"
All of the original rawness of the unmistakable early '70's production and Joplin's wild vocal delivery is laid out bare but with a greater sense of warmth that most other pressings of this album lack.
The asking price is steep and there are good sounding cheaper pressings, even from Mobile Fidelity themselves.
But as with all Ultra Disc One Step 2x 45RPM MFSL pressings - If you want, arguably the best sounding vinyl version of this album, and you are a Janis Joplin fan and Pearl is an essential album for you, then outside of an original first US pressing, this is a must have.
The only gripe that I have is that MFSL still has quality issues with the record outer sleeves, where they are infamously prone to shipping out of the box with seam splits.

Not even the mighty MoFi could rescue this iconic album's poor recording and production
1 of 1 found this helpful Mobile Fidelity themselves couldn't do much to improve the sub-par recording quality or production woes of this otherwise iconic album. Still has the audible distortion in the first song and even the source master tape audible creasing at the start of the title track, overall lack of tonal colour and muddy instrumental mix. Though Lou Gramm's vocals stood out well.
In my opinion this album shouldn't be in their catalog as they failed to offer a reissue that resolved these glaring issues. Even with MoFi's Gain2 process and high quality and quiet heavyweight vinyl pressing. If I had known this I would've just settled for a well looked after early vinyl pressing.
