    Be prepared
When this machine arrived, the case can for the power supply area only had 2 screws in it. There weren't any nuts on the back of the screws to hold the fan in place and they weren't the typical fan screws that bite into the plastic. I really have no idea how the fan stayed in place during shipping as it fell off the screws during the unpacking process. The exhaust fan for the cutting area was broken. The motor was just sliding around in its case. All 4 of the plastic motor mounts had been snapped. The high voltage transformer inside if the power supply that powers the laser tube was completely disconnected so the laser wouldn't fire. I would normally attribute such things to a horrific shipping journey, but the box was in great shape when it arrived. That means your guess is as good as mine. These were all minor things to fix, but still a great annoyance. Once everything was put together correctly, it appeared to operate as it should. Just a few things to note. If you are up for the challenge and purchase one of these, here are a few suggestions. When it arrives, check everything over really well. Have a garbage can near by as you will probably want to toss the instruction manual, software, exhaust fan and finally the bed and clamp system. If you want to be able to work with material that's actually 8x12 and etch something more than a couple millimeters thick, you will need a bed with an adjustable height to keep the laser in focus. You may also need to cut the exhaust duct inside the machine as it's too long. If you're looking for cheap, purchase a 6x6 lab lift for your new table. They are around $30. As far as software, inkscape is free and there are a lot of great tutorials out there for laser cutting and etching. With that, you will also need K40 whisperer to interpret the image for the cutter. It's also free. Look at K40 mods. Most folks are recommending air assist, targeting lasers, a safety switch on the lid, internal lights so you can see and maybe a temp sensor for the water. In summary, if you don't mind putting in a little time and effort, you can make this a decent machine, but be prepared to spend a little extra money to do so. My first project is laser cutting a new acrylic, backlit control panel to accommodate the extra switches, temp displays, etc..
