great supporting casts, better than usual john wayne movies
all these john wayne movies have excellent supporting casts. two early in his career and two much later.
of the early ones, the spoilers is corny but wonderful with a non-singing marlene dietrich and a pretty good plot. the shepherd of the hills in an anachronism and not so good.
the later ones, rooster cogburn and the war wagon are two of my favourite JW films with the war wagon finally changing up the tired plot of saving the drunken sheriff. Katharine Hepburn is in her only movie with our hero in rooster cogburn and watching them joust for 90 minutes is a joy. it's more fun than true grit.
