SCIENTIFIC ANGLERS Floating Clear Wet Tip Intermediate on the Bass Pond
I have three of these specialized SA lines now; WF4F/SI, WF5F/SI and WF6F/SI. I started my experiment with the 4 on my Winston 4wt. It didn't take me long to realise the potential embodied in this floating body, clear intermediate wet tip. Now I find myself wishing I had this line along in my early days fishing majestic Western canyon streams such as the Sespe and Piru and countless Sierra pocket water. Gradually dry flying my way through the flats, I would eventually reach the steep narrow granite and marble gorges. Here I employed my secret tactic! Meticulously spacing 2, 3 or even 4 fine split shot along a delicate leader was the method I honed for drifting small wet flies or "helgies" into those dark spooky crevices and along eerie submerged shelves. Clunking along the bottom with a dark sink tip or a single large split shot would only flush away the larger wary trout lurking in these technical waters.
Optimum spacing could yield reasonable leader turnover too! But this nirvana rarely lasted for more than 2 or 3 casts. By the time you got the weight distribution adjusted: not too deep, not too high, but just right - motional kinetics would take over. A shot would slide or fling off bringing my balanced, but delicate, leader setup back to a state of chaos!
These Scientific Anglers floating body clear wet tip intermediates would have been just the ticket!
Now retired, here in Florida, I have a short walk to my Bass pond. Last Sunday eve, just after Hurricane Matthew cleared out, I plugged my SA WF5F/SI line onto my reel. About a yard of straight 5X and tied on a trout sized Wooley Bugger. Second effortless cast along side a Lilly pad, count to seven or eight, a few short strips and "Bang" a nice bass rockets out of the water. Perfect and simple below surface fishing. Can't wait to hit the Western waters though.

Wooly Bugger Rules the Bass Pond
Like teasing a cat with yarn, bass just can't resist chasing and striking these wooly bugers. My setup includes a floating body, clear intermediate wet-tip line and about 24" of 4X tippet.

I Don't Leave Home Without MY PolyLeaders!
Clear Tip Intermediate PolyLeaders have proven indispensable for my style of fishing. In still waters, I can hold 1 to 3 feet retrieve depth and still raise up avoiding the near-bank vegetation or obstacles. On floating lines, 3 to 5wt, I get about 3 times more fish.
