While i had the Kreepy Krauly out of the water....
...I decided to replace the wedge too. A single screw hold the cover in place. Pulled the old out, which really looked fine still, and put the new one in. Replaced the cover and all was ready to go. Simple.

Nice front end lift...easy and quick to use. Well thought out in design and manufacturing.
I had one very similar to this one but lost it in a fire. I've been looking for another one instead of the long legged ones the lift under the head stock. I have one and it's a PITA to use. With this stand, I can lift the forks quickly for most any wheel/front end jobs. I use it especially when washing the bikes.
I've used it on my '05 Ducati ST4$ and my '99 996 Superbike. I kinda mated it up to my '75 Norton Commando front end but it is on the lift with the front wheel in the vice so hard to see if it will work but it looks like it will. On the Norton, the hole below the axle is a bit small and shallow so need to actually try it first.
The stand in the pic is not a true representation of the actual stand, but close. The stand comes in three pieces so is easy to ship or less room in a crowded van for a race bike. The "U" shaped handle leg is double bolted/lock nutted to the two "lift" legs so are good and rigid. There are two rubber "bumpers" on the bottom of the handle legs for finger clearance as well as a slight upward bend to the handle end. The handles appear to be a bit longer than the one in the pic so a bit more of a leverage advantage which is good. The tubing OD is 1.500" (3.81 cm) and appears to be of 16 gauge tubing stock (nominal .065"/ 0.175 cm wall thickness).
The paired 3" (7.75cm) wheels are wide spaced (~3"/ 7.62cm) at each lift leg. They have plastic "treads" and a bit soft durometer. Time will tell how long they last. On the plus side of the soft tread is that they do grip on the concrete/flooring. The axles have roller bearings, not bushes, on both sides of each the four wheels. They are "spaced", "washered" and lock-nutted to the axle tubes on the lift legs.
The pin part of the lift legs that go into the lift holes in the fork legs are well designed also. They are a firm plastic casting, a truncated conical shape, pressed into an eccentrically drilled and machined turned steel round stock. They can be rotated 90 degrees from center in opposite directions so the over all width is slightly adjustable. They are locked in place with a buttonheaded allen screw The truncated end of the cone has a cast in screwdriver slot for rotation.
I just pulled the end piece out and they are very well made and designed. The round bar stock pieces are turned on the OD about half way up the length so it sits into and rests on the lip of the lift tubes. It is locked into place with the above mentioned threaded screw. There are three hole in the sides of the rod for 90 degrees of rotation of the conical pieces. The rods are drilled length wise off center to form the eccentric of the plastic pieces so are obviously replaceable but would have to be pressed into place.
So, the more I dug into this stand, the more impressed I am.....nice stand!
