Effective
1 of 1 found this helpful This is particularly good for severing dandelion roots growing in a lawn where it is not practical to dig the plant out, and you don't want to use weedkiller, and similarly useful when dock, dandelions, etc are growing in a bed close to plants that shouldn't be disturbed. Pushed in at an angle it is easy to cut the root 2cm-3cm below soil level and then pull out the top of the root with the leaves. They may grow back the next year or later in the season but will be weakened and repeating the task will eventually kill them off if they don't die the first year. I have just bought a replacement after my last one broke where the blade joins the handle, but that was after many years use. As delivered it has a tapered but blunt end so a few strokes with a half-round file will put a sharp edge on the end and make it more effective.

Does the job well
This was particularly good where I needed something with less flex than bamboo to support some heavy plants. The poles are heavier than bamboo, but still lightweight being made of steel tube. As with bamboo, they can only be pushed into soft ground - but as with bamboo the solution is to have a bit of steel rod or some pipe to hand to bang in to make a hole, and then drop the stake into it. The textured plastic coating is a good feature as wire or string tied onto the pole does not slip down it and the green finish is less intrusive than bamboo as a bonus.

Nice simple design & good value
Goes together well and looks good. Perit four cases will line the squares nicely if desired.
