Better Than Today's Parallel ATA Controller Cards
1 of 1 found this helpful Previously I bought a Manhattan brand (P)ATA EIDE PCI Express controller card. It was awful. It never worked correctly, neither for hard disk drives nor optical drives. But this Maxtor Promise Ultra ATA133 dual IDE controller card worked exactly as it should! It recognized all of the drives which I connected to it, and all of them behaved as expected. The speed is good and everything is as it should be. If I had one complaint, it is that the time it takes to recognize the drives during boot time takes too long, but a large part of that is simply due to the nature of the ATA drives' technology, not a problem specific to this card. Overall, this is a recommended controller card! Go with Maxtor, one of the grandest of them all!

Extreme Pinball is a Wonderful Follow-up to Epic Pinball
Extreme Pinball was released in 1995. It is the sequel to Epic Pinball. Both are fantastic video pinball games for DOS by Epic MegaGames. They have awesome graphics and music for their time. The gameplay is fun and compelling! It's just too bad that Extreme Pinball has only four pinball tables to play while Epic Pinball had thirteen tables from which to choose. Nonetheless, I have sunk a ton of hours into these smile-inducing games and you might too!
To run these games today, please use the excellent DOSBox or DOSBox Pure to play them. First install a game from its floppy disk or CD-ROM via DOSBox, then run the game itself via DOSBox. Whether you are using Windows, Mac, Linux, or another OS, DOSBox should help these games to run, often with little to no extra configuration required.
Note that the PlayStation (1) release of Extreme Pinball looks and plays almost as well as the original. However, the PlayStation port has very frequent, long loading times. It is too bad that the PS1 port wasn't better optimized for PlayStation as the loading times somewhat kill the flow of the game. Once a pinball table is loaded it is good-to-go for as long as you want to play it, but changing tables or even only opening the menu (such as to change an option) causes a minute-long loading time to occur - and even returning to the same starting table causes another minute-long loading time to occur!
